Monday 23rd August to Saturday 25th September*
London College of Fashion is proud to announce the opening of Flexible Factory, a ‘Pop Up’ fashion outlet showcasing work by graduates and students from part time undergraduate courses at London College of Fashion.
Flexible Factory, which opens on Monday 23 August in the ex-Warehouse unit, will be the first event of its kind to showcase a variety of innovative and exciting work by recent graduates and established alumni, who represent this hugely successful programme.
The inspiration behind the exhibits is as varied as the graduate demographic and the personal journeys of each student; from new technology to nostalgia this experimental pop up shop showcases women’s and menswear collections and illustration and photography and will culminate in Flexible Factory taking over the Plaza for a flash mob style catwalk show on Thursday 9 September which will be open to the public.
Recent graduates from the Flexible Learning programme who will be showcasing their forthcoming Autumn Winter 2010 collection are design duo Jena.Theo (www.jenatheo.com) who graduated from the programme with First Class Honours and went on to win the prestigious Fashion Fringe award in 2009.
Professor Frances Corner OBE, Head of College at London College of Fashion commented: "London College of Fashion is delighted to be working with the Plaza on Oxford Street to showcase the beautiful and inspiring work of the graduates who have come through our flexible learning programme. The development of flexible undergraduate courses are an essential component of the offer at London College of Fashion. This fantastic exhibition represents the huge achievements of our graduates who have worked extremely hard to gain their degrees whilst juggling their many and varied outside commitments.”
Keith Brushneen Centre Manager at The Plaza, said: “The Plaza is delighted to be supporting the next generation of fashion design talent through Flexible Factory; and looks forward to welcoming visitors to the West End to catch a glimpse of future design stars.”
The Flexible Learning programme at London College of Fashion is the largest part time provision in the University of the Arts London with over 250 students. It allows people from a diverse range of backgrounds to participate in a unique educational environment at times to suit them which include evenings, weekends and online tuition.
Flexible Learning offers a choice of three BA (Hons) degrees and two Foundation Arts Degrees (FdAs) - whose curriculum reflects the breadth of the expertise on offer at London College of Fashion - from fashion design, media and fashion business, to marketing and visual merchandising.
Andrew Hughes, Dean of the School of Management and Science commented: “Flexible Factory is a testament to the quality and ambition of our parttime students. The excellence they exhibit shows the true value of a flexible education which will enable them to enhance their careers, develop new skills and gain in self confidence.”
*Please note that the unit will be closed on 8th to 10th September (due to the fashion show).
